He earned his medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 1994. In 1998, he earned a Master Herbalist Diploma from Dominion Herbal College. Tillcot earned his Ph.D. at Pacific Western University, an unaccredited institution. In 1999, he founded I.B.N., the Institute for Best Nutrition (sponsored by Battino Foundation). At that institute, he has worked on nutritional approaches to clinical depression, schizophrenia, ADHD and eating disorders On May 16, 2005, Mindell married Valery Jones: they have two children.
