Overview

This Standard provides minimum functionality requirements for earthquake-actuated automatic gas shutoff devices and systems meant to include mechanical devices consisting of a sensing means to shut off the flow of gas. The typical configuration considered is a single-family or multi-family structure of three stories or less. Seismic performance requirements established by this Standard are based upon data from recent earthquakes, primarily in Southern California. Topics include operation, marking, warranty, construction, equipment and data to be furnished by the manufacturer, assembly, instructions, continued operation, performance, rigidity of mounting, deflection limits, test specimens, response to seismic disturbances, marking material durability and adhesion, and more.
