Each in Our Own Way

Overview

Each in Our Own Way is the Tanka Society of America's 2024 Members' Anthology, edited by Michele L. Harvey. This collection features English-language tanka, a five-line verse form, by 168 poets from throughout the United States and Canada, and around the world. As Harvey puts it, ""Here these individual voices merge to give a wide-ranging taste of what tanka's five lines can offer. Its breadth, its elasticity, its spirit, its embrace of life from the everyday to the sublime."" She notes that tanka draws on feelings, ""turning them into poetry. All life's struggles and disappointment, love, family, friends, loss and death are here expressed as valued poetic subjects. Give me the five short lines of tanka, and I'll show you the treasures of the heart."" Contributors to Each in Our Own Way include: Margi Abraham, Rupa Anand, Cynthia Anderson, Jenny Ward Angyal, an'ya, Eric Arthen, Joanna Ashwell, Susan Aurinko, Sharon Hammer Baker, Leslie Bamford, Maxianne Berger, Jerome Berglund, Shiva Bhusal, Sally Biggar, Peggy Hale Bilbro, Bing Bingham, Elizabeth Black, Michael Blaine, Shawn Blair, Michelle Brock, Gail Brooks, Randy Brooks, Dawn Bruce, John Budan, Susan Burch, Ann Corbett Burke, Janet Butler, Claire Vogel Camargo, Pris Campbell, Theresa A.
