OverviewDural arteriovenous malformations are recognized as distinct entities, readily identified, angiographically occurring in typical locations often adjacent to a major dural sinus. Research has revealed new insights into the natural history, symptomatic associations, radiologic features and histopathologic characteristics of DAVMs, which have in turn shaped various therapeutic options including conservatism, the use of a variety of endovascular techniques and direct surgical obliteration. These contributions come from experts in the fields of neurosurgery, neuroradiology and ophthalmology, and represent a consolidation of current understanding of the etiology and clinical behaviour of these lesions and a contemporary review of operative and non-operative management strategies.
