Overview

This book is a unique collection of 165 photographs about inhabitants of Dublin. I shot the photographs myself during a long stay in the city and in the county of Dublin, talking to Dubliners and walking tirelessly on the streets. You will also find animals living in the city and county, on the streets, skies and beaches. Finally, you will find here many excellent graffiti portraits embellishing the streets of Dublin. It is artistic in that I have tried to portray the subjects and objects here depicted following my aesthetic tastes. It is social because I have tried to select relevant social scenes. I tried to capture the moment, the feelings and the nature of the people and animals portrayed. You will judge by yourself if the enterprise reached a good port. I don't usually give any title to the photographs, as I usually do, so as not to influence your train of thoughts. You yourself will come to your own conclusions as to what the image means, if there is a second meaning at all. I hope, however, that you will appreciate the idiosyncrasy of some Dubliners that transpires from some of these pictures. As a temporary Dubliner myself, I also appear here photographed. It is interesting to notice that, in some instances, one does not know who is being observed, if the photographed subject or the photographer, for photography is the art of the glance, and the glance is selective, it also depicts the mind of the viewer taking the picture and the mind of the portrayed person when considering the photographer. If you are thinking of visiting Dublin this book could then help you to take a decision and visit it. If you have already visited the city, this book could enrich your memories with previously unseen life scenes.
