Nicholas Lemann is the director of Columbia Global Reports, a staff writer at The New Yorker, and dean emeritus of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism, where he is the Joseph Pulitzer II and Edith Pulitzer Moore Professor of Journalism.
