Dreams in Times of War: Stories

Audio Format

Overview

In twelve stories, Dreams in Times of War/Soñar en tiempos de guerra brilliantly fictionalizes the lives of Latinx immigrants in the United States. The stories explore themes of violence including toxic masculinity, domestic abuse, and (trans)gender discrimination but also the alternative communities they form that offer solidarity and hope. Listeners will celebrate this unflinching but heartfelt look at diverse immigrant experiences in the twenty-first century United States.

Author Information

Oswaldo Estrada is an award-winning author of many books, including the short-story collections Luces de emergencia (Emergency Lights) and Las guerras perdidas (The Lost Wars) and the novel Tus pequeñas huellas (Footprints). He is a professor of Latin American literature at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Gary Tiedemann is a Florida and New York-based narrator, but learned how to act in Chicago's improv, sketch-comedy, and theater scene. He came to audiobook narration after voicing countless commercials and videos over a twenty-year voice-over career. Gary has also appeared in hundreds of improv and sketch performances at Chicago's Annoyance Theatre, iO, The Second City, and in dozens of theater roles as a cofounder of The New Colony Theatre. When Gary is not in a booth, he is probably outside wondering if there is time to go camping.
