One flight. One engine failure. One devastating crash. On June 12, 2025, Air India Flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, took off from Ahmedabad en route to London Gatwick. Moments later, disaster struck. The aircraft plummeted into a residential area, resulting in the tragic loss of 241 lives onboard and at least 33 on the ground. Among the passengers was former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who perished in the crash. The incident marked the first fatal crash involving a Boeing 787 in its 16-year history. 241 people on board-230 passengers, 2 pilots and 10 crew members. The aircraft was under the commander Sumeet Subharwal, with first officer Clive Kunder. The rising death toll beyond the 241 confirm passengers and crew indicated that the remaining 33 victims were likely people present on the BJ Medical College campus in Ahmedabad.
