Growing up, Ayris Hatton spent many solitary hours drawing and writing in the backyard of the family home in Westwood, California. Her writing and art became solaces amid a busy, exciting, and hectic family life. Her parents often asked her to share her poems at holiday dinners and parties.Her parents owned a restaurant in Hollywood that became a celebrity hangout where stars like Bette Davis and Gary Cooper sought anonymity and stiff drinks. Her star-struck father managed to get his six kids into movies and shaped the three oldest into the Hatton Sisters trio. They performed on TV, cut records, and were a lead-in for Nat King Cole.Ayris has written a memoir about her early life, but Dreaming Wide Awake is her first volume of poetry, prose, and artwork.Ayris holds a BA from UC Berkeley and two MAs in fine arts and art therapy. She became a Registered Art Therapist and a single mom to her daughter when her first husband died. She married again seven years later and had a son who now has two delightful daughters.
