Marty Friedman's upbringing was as atypical as his career. Growing up in a Jewish household in Maryland, the son of an NSA executive, he lacked motivation until he discovered the guitar. Friedman moved to California and scored a gig in Megadeth. J-Pop! and Samurai Ongakuron and had long running columns in Asahi Weekly newspaper (nine years), Nikkei Entertainment (six years), Cyzo (five years), Big Comic (three years), and Burrn (four years). His autobiography, Dreaming Japanese, is his first book written in English.
