It is a wonderfully written adventure that has mystery, magick (yes it is spelt with k) adventure. The magickal school is refreshed and re-imagined for the next generation of readers, with an intriguing storyline that becomes more addictive as you read along. The story begins in the 'magicklands' and by chapter three, you are in the 'Plainlands' aka our world and reality. Without revealing too much about the transition process, Charlie and his family, get thrust into this highly creative and imaginative world. Charlie, naturally, meets his new friends and then involve themselves in the mystery of the half-prophecy. The placing of the teachers' are innovative and their backgrounds will have a wide appeal. The school is truly magickal and the school houses are clever in how each student is allocated to it. The Great City is alluring and, I was quite partial in imagining myself participating in the Orberon, as would many. The inclusion of subjects such as 'Etiquette' was a tasteful addition along with the moral grounding is just simply what the young generation requires today and hope this message translates across to them. There is a nice balance in the friendships and the novel has plenty to gauge the interest of both male and female readers. The chapters build up steadily with a 'carrot' placed at the end of each one to keep you hanging in there, revealing small details at a time. Readers will do well in keeping to the story as the pace suddenly quickens that leads to a fantastically, well concluded and resolved story that places you in a state of anticipation for the next installation. Comparisons will be made with Harry Potter and there is even an essence of HP but, it is completely a standalone novel with its own charm and charisma and a smorgasbord of ideas and concepts, which aren't too overwhelming or oversubscribed. Dragonstone is full of promise and has the potential to be as gripping as the series mentioned above. Children are going to love this. Having examined the website, there are all the Amazon reviews and much more can be seen on dragonstonebook. com, under the review section and the first chapter, is located under the preview tab! There's a brand new media and event section there, too! To conclude: Cosmolos was probably my favourite character, along with Charlie, Amanda and Eric, though there is a huge potential for the development of many of the other characters. This is definitely a worthwhile investment!! Author InformationTab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
