Overview

Doctor Harry Levinson, author of The Psychological Man, cites the loss of a job as very high on a scale of impactful events that tend to shock one's psyche. As I tracked my own multiple careers during a seventy five year span, I realized that I had been on both sides of that event having been fired and downsized from employment and having fired and downsized others. I thought then that I might share, herein, one case study from my own experience during which I created a set of seven poetic reflections which I call The Downsizing Septology I wrote them concomitantly with my being ousted from a high-level administrative position by a team at the top using an under-the-table-process to get me to quit, which worked. However, after resigning, I hired an attorney to file a Wrongful Dismissal lawsuit, which I won. My poetry in this document tracks the various phases of my expulsion through seven seriatim poems. It is my hope that my reliance on documenting these experiences through poetry may help others as they experience the sudden loss of a job, or some other important life changing events.Whether fired, downsized, furloughed, reassigned, involuntarily transferred, or laid off, the feelings one experiences are very similar to reactions in Elizabeth Kubla Ross' theories on The Five Stages of Grief.Ergo the following ..........
