Overview

When Tom and Ella Watson seek a post-retirement new life, little did they know that Ella's talent for creating tasty baked goods would bring the Devlin Bakery of Martinsville, Illinois, back to life. After being shuttered for three years, the enticing aroma of fresh baked goods will again float on the morning air, rejuvenate the town's spirit, and the townsfolk will, once again, have a place to gather. Long lost family members find each other, friendships are forged, and love comes to some for the first time. Secrets are unearthed, and mysteries are solved. What is the mayor determined to hide from the townsfolk? Who is the young woman, the newcomer in town, who purchases large quantities of baked goods for months on end, and who is eating them? What riddle is behind the haunting look in Delia's eyes? What secrets lie hidden in the lives of the townspeople? Is anyone living a life with regret?

Author Information

Deborah Goodacre, originally from Michigan, is a long-time resident of Phoenix, Arizona. Down At The Devlin Bakery is her first published novel. Creating stories and populating them with lively characters is a true passion for Deborah. Crafting them into a full-length novel has brought her much joy and a great sense of accomplishment. In 2020, Deborah won the Daughters of the American Revolution 3rd place national award for her story, The 19th Amendment; How A Revolution Healed My Momma's Heart. Deborah is the sole owner of a successful interior design business she started in 2001. However, her genealogy research led her to write short stories that reflect her favorite family memories. Ultimately, it inspired her to write, Down At The Devlin Bakery. She leads a small group of writers in this endeavor, encouraging them to record family history for future generations. When Deborah is not writing, she is an avid reader of books based on the origin of our country, historical fiction, and non-fiction. Deborah and her husband, Ken, spend vacation and leisure time in the White Mountains of Arizona with their two Havanese dogs, Remy and Sophie.
