OverviewDoorways to Purification January-February 2025 A combination anthology in the ongoing series presenting the lyrics written by the Irish singer-songwriter Paul Murphy, this anthology contains all the material created during January and February 2025, previously presented in Volume 21 - Doorways: January 2025, and Volume 22 - Purification: February 2025. Amazingly, Paul crafted an incredible 101 songs in just 59 days, all the more astounding given that they were created as he was succumbing to the muscle-wasting neuro-degenerative condition that he had battled for over 10 years (Paul by-lined this collection 'Songs Written Between The Pillars', a reference to Samson). Including here are works as diverse as the Trump-administration observations 'Firin' Line' and 'You Get What You Vote For'; the excoriating UK political commentaries '""People Like You""' and 'England's Shame', the latter a rail against the systems that fail the young and the infirm and the vulnerable; the harrowing 'Wrong', a 2-person duologue about a female being pressurised into 'going all the way'; 'Down Here', a look at the underside of society, where manipulation and predatory behaviour runs unchecked; the pinwheel twist narrative allegory 'Down The Geen-Eyed Highway'; the risqué humour of 'You All Left Your Mark On Me'; and, most poignantly, a final ballad of love and devotion and appreciation, to his young children, 'With You In My Arms'. During February, Paul wrote several linking songs to complete his musical on a young woman's exploitation and survival, Juliette - Descent & Rise, and those songs are presented here, in their original formats. Ballads, social commentaries, prose-works, love songs, political excoriations, eulogies, lullabies, tales of the forsaken, the corrupt, the heartbroken and also, some humorous numbers... this combination volume contains a stunning collection of narrative storytelling and emotive lyrical poeticism from a unique master of the genre. Accompanying each work is a photograph of the original handwritten lyric - astonishingly, all Paul's songs came to him start to finish, with only an occasional word or two adjusted - and artworks including YouTube performance drop-cards and online advertisements. Also present are the two song-by-song essays written by Paul for the individual volumes, detailing the inspiration, back-story and circumstance behind each work. Added in as extra material to the separate volumes are the 01 March composition 'I Saw An Angel Crying' (believed to be Paul's last song and widely assumed to be an allegorical tale about the unborn babies he lost); plus new and previously unissued alternate artworks.
