Overview

Nagasaki, 1600s. Iori-baptized as a child, employed as an interpreter-keeps the peace between daimyo rules and foreign ledgers. When a forbidden poem surfaces, he has one night to smuggle it through wells with ""second throats,"" stone steps with iron hooks, and an inspector who prefers mercy priced in numbers. With Kayo, a teahouse strategist who leads a choir of workers, and Tatsu, a spy with a kind smile, Iori turns soup, hinges, and a city's talent for pretending into weapons.
