Overview

In Norse Mythology, the Battle of Ragnarok, between the Gods and the Frost Giants from Jotunheim takes place during the Fimbulwinter at the end of the World. The Gods and Man lose. In Christian myth, the battle of Armageddon is fought between the good Christians and the non-believers in the time of the Apocalypse. The Ancient Mayans promise a change in the world that will occur on December 21, 2012, and will possibly be the end of us. These, and dozens of other doomsday myths are describing the end of the world as we know it. One of the problems with human created myths is that the likely truth never gets in the way of a good story. Most of these doomsdays end with a little bit of hope that Good will win over Evil, and that a new and better Humanity will survive the End. That is all very positive and Life Affirming. Unfortunately, if something human survives, then it really isn't a doomsday, is it? There is a tendency in people to think that there is something special about their species. Bad news, Folks. Death comes to everyone. Every species, including Man, will go extinct at some point in the future. One thing is indisputable. Like all good parties, life on earth will one day end. We cannot outrun death, but the further we go, the longer it will take for Death to catch up to our species. Life on planet earth has almost been wiped out multiple times. The only way we can survive long term is to spread out to the other planets, to space itself, and migrate to other stars. In writing this little book, I have attempted to cover some of the possible ways that our species is threatened with extinction, with a bit of humor and a whole lot of crazy. Enjoy the book, and help think about some solutions!
