"""This book is at once heart-breaking and inspiring - that one woman could go through all this, come out the other side with a sense of self and a sense of hope, and then commit it all to paper and share it with the world is astonishing. Read this book and renew your sense of what's possible."" - Laurie ""This book is an inspiration. Janet is a modern-day hero. Don't Expect Me To Cry is one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Written with a raw realness, Janet's story comes straight from her heart to ours. The courage in the first place to endure and rise above such atrocity. Then the strength and peace to use her experience to help others by writing and talking about it. We are blessed. A must read. A wondrous example of how strong a human can be; this book has shown me that I can work through whatever this life throws at me. Thank-you for gracing us Janet"" - Brad S ""What a raw and emotional read this was! I found my heart experiencing all emotions, anger, sadness, pain and strength. I admire the resilience and perseverance that Janet portrays on the quest for a new journey of life, meaning and love. Written by a beautiful soul in the purest form of turning our battles into strengths, Janet proves that we may not be able to rewrite the past, but we can write our future!"" - Aleah J ""Despite working in law enforcement and frequently seeing the darker sides of society, this book showed me a level of human suffering that is unbearable to read at times. The temptation to stop reading and to immediately remove myself from being an observer in Janet's horror story was only resisted by my desperate need to know that her suffering would at some point end. I think EVERY frontline practitioner should read this book and heartbreakingly count the number of lost opportunities there were to step in and save this poor child from suffering. If your childhood was safe and happy you definitely need to read this so you're more appreciative!"" - Susan B ""Janet Bentley is an amazing writer. If Don't Expect Me To Cry was a novel it would receive high praise for its drama, raw descriptions of violent assault, and glimpses of hope from skilled therapists which end up dashed time and again. Dramatic arcs in masterful presentation. But it is not a novel. It is Janet's own autobiography written honestly and directly, with a unique ability to show the evil done to her without becoming maudlin, alongside her learning of the science behind her lifelong struggles. Janet writes with fragility and strength as the victim, and as a unique form of therapist that only one who has experienced the trauma can provide. Her detailed highlights of the professional therapists who began her healing, and the contra events of dependency and transference that her fragility led her to, are true clinical insights and of value to all who read it. Kudos, Janet. You have provided help to a hurting audience, and a flash of cruel reality to everyone. I would find your work useful as a ""textbook"" for professionals. Well done and the very best of everything. Allow me a little self-disclosure: I am a book reviewer and a writer, and also a retired Behavioral Psychologist. My deep admiration for and high praise of your work are from all three vantage points."" - Tom G"
