"Growing up in Rhode Island, Kelly Hartmann began caring for children at a young age. She volunteered at the L.A.D.D. center (which is now closed) in Rhode Island for people with Down syndrome, and walked yearly for the St. Jude Walk/Run. After moving to San Diego in 2000, Kelly opened KinderCans, a gift service for children in hospitals. Later, she opened a licensed home daycare called Babies to Butterflies, which she owned and operated for ten years. Kelly has cared for and told stories to many children during her life. Writing has always been her passion, and her favorite way to tell a story is to ""make it up as she goes."" She wrote satire briefly for Spoof.com and served as the daycare writer in her area for Examiner.com. Kelly lives in the San Diego county area with her daughter Lauren, son-in-law Erik, and youngest son, Caleb. Jacob, her middle child, lives in Rhode Island with his wife Deiry and their two children, Sophia and Max."
