OverviewCats in fact d not really chew th ir food. Every once in while, I'll watch my cat Avery eat his kibble and notice h takes single bite out of every second or third piece before swallowing. But chewing? Never happens, not in any meaningful sense at least. And this is completely ordinary behaviour for cat. Cats are obligate carnivores. This doesn't mean th y never eat foods besides meat in th wild (they absolutely d eat plants at times!). Rather, being n obligate carnivore means cats need t eat meat t survive. Cats require high amounts of protein in th ir diets, and th ir bodies require both taurine and arginine - two amino acids th y can only really get in th wild from eating meat. If cat tried t sustain him or herself on plant-only diet in th wild, h or she wouldn't make it. As result of th ir high-meat diet, cats evolved teeth that are perfectly suited for eating meat. Pointy teeth, lot like ur canines. We use ur canines for tearing - foods like bread sometimes, but mostly for meats, like beef steaks, pork cutlets, th fleshy bits off chicken bones, that kind of thing. We may chew ur meat directly after, but that's not job for ur canines.
