OverviewThe focus of this conference was the utilization of DNA as a tool in molecular manipulation on solid substrates. Envisioned already decades ago, tremendous progress was made in recent years that is evident in the broad application of these approaches not only by a few specialized groups, but on a wider scale. DNA could potentially provide highly specific but also nearly unlimited variations of coupling schemes for molecular structures with typical technical elements, for example, on the surface of a chip. DNA nanotechnology as a standard technique next to a variety of other biomolecular and physical approaches promises further progress in the manipulation at the nanometer and single-molecule scale. Topics included in this volume are: immobilization, metallization, electrical field and conductivity, as well as microscopic characterization.
