This court case laid the legal groundwork for borderless education. When Nova University of Florida offered courses in other states (where the university did not have a physical campus), the University of North Carolina objected -- and the court ruled that Nova had a right to offer its courses. This court case opened the door that University of Phoenix, Kaplan and other online universities used when the Internet came into being a decade later.
