Overview

Have you ever asked yourself what the purpose of your life is? Do you feel like life is meaningless because you have not encountered a convincing answer to that question? Well, you are not alone. Many philosophers have argued that a clear answer to the problem of meaning is forever lost, and that there is no rational way to secure purpose. If a solution could be discovered, it would only be a very subjective one. We may construct one for ourselves, according to this line of thinking, but an objective purpose can never be found. I wrote this book because I strongly disagree with this contention. If you are interested in this adventurous question, you will find in these pages a novel approach to the problem, and I argue that through philosophical inquiry, we indeed can uncover an objective meaning to our lives. This book is a step-by-step guide to walk you through the tough questions in the philosophy of meaning and to bring you closer to your destiny. Our purpose is relevant for all of us. And perhaps the solution touches deeper than you might have ever dared to imagine.

Author Information

"Josh Walter holds a range of academic degrees all the way from science to the humanities and philosophy. While he was teaching and researching at different universities, he became particularly interested in the """"deep stuff"""" that makes life so fascinating. As such, he has been working on intriguing phenomena, like for example the neuroscience of religious experiences or biological reactions to spiritual states of mind. However, for years he has been troubled by some of the most fundamental questions there are: what's the meaning of life? Are we just accidental creatures with no deeper purpose? Or are there solid reasons to assume otherwise? After working on these questions for many years - both academically as well as personally - he encountered his fair share of existential troubles. Eventually, as the thoughts progressed, he stumbled across some completely novel arguments that he came to believe are ""the"" solution to the problem of meaning. The ideas sparked vivid discussions in philosophy classrooms and campuses. Finally, Josh was urged to weave his thoughts into a book so that they could escape the classroom and find their ways into the world. The book you now hold in your hands is exactly that: an attempt to bring these ideas into a palatable form in the hope that others may profit from them as well and that they might ignite interesting discussions not only on the campus floors, but in the homes and living rooms of readers young and old. If you like Josh's book, maybe you will also like his music on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and all other streaming platforms. Then, you may perhaps also be interested in his academic research which is published under his birth name: Yoshija Walter."
