Overview

This work focuses on a presentation of various sets of related Biblical Hebrew word derivations, presented as puzzles, and including the answers. The puzzles allow the reader to share in the discovery process. This presentation is also an attempt to prove the original nature of derivational morphology (word formation). The author suggests he finds evidence that the morphology is like that of an ideal language. Knowledge of linguistics and knowledge of Biblical Hebrew is not a prerequisite. An analysis of Biblical Hebrew-Greek transliterations are also included in this volume. A glossary of Biblical Hebrew and a glossary of linguistic terms used in this volume are also included. Historical linguistics is touched upon in two articles with recommended readings in the Appendix, and a brief primer to the author's next book on the subject of Egyptian decipherment is also found in the Appendix. The theory presented herein is largely compatible with the theory of word formation proposed by Jeff Benner in 'The Ancient Hebrew Language and Alphabet'. The semantic puzzles in chapters 3 and 5 will seem new to most people, and should be fun to try; again no knowledge of Hebrew is required to solve those puzzles, but the Hebrew answers are given in chapters 4 and 6.
