OverviewThe current issues and debates that surround 'disabilities' include social/political rights, social inclusion, and citizenship. In developed countries, the debate has moved beyond a concern about the perceived cost of maintaining dependent people with a disability to ensuring that people with a disability can participate in and contribute to society in all spheres of life. Each volume in this collection contains a selection of documents of the international legal framework for protection of the rights of persons with disabilities. The collection includes an index of meetings, discussions, and resolutions taken in order to enable the integration of disabled people into the community that surrounds them without being treated differently or disrespectfully. Volume 1 and Volume 2 focus on the incorporation of rights in international bodies and national legislation and the reports of the first eight sessions by UN Enable (The Ad Hoc Committee for the protection of the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities). Volume 3 focuses on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and related reports and studies. Volume 4 presents the first (2009) to tenth (2013) session of the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and includes relevant jurisprudence.
