OverviewDinny is a small Jack Russell who lives on Farmer John's farm. He is eager to help, but he doesn't yet know what his job should be. First, Dinny tries helping with the chickens-but the hens flap and scatter everywhere. Farmer John gently tells him that chasing chooks isn't the right job. Next, Dinny tries watching the sheep. He crouches low and hopes he might be a sheepdog, but the sheep burst into a noisy, woolly panic. Once again, Dinny realizes he hasn't quite found his place. Farmer John patiently encourages him to keep trying. Dinny even attempts guarding the ducks at the pond, but his enthusiastic leap sends water and feathers flying everywhere. Dinny begins to worry that he might never find the job meant for him. But then Dinny notices something Farmer John doesn't-a fox creeping toward a helpless lamb. Without hesitation, Dinny springs into action, barking and chasing the fox away. At last, everyone understands. Dinny wasn't meant to herd or guard the ducks. Dinny's real job is protecting the farm. That night, Dinny rides home proudly in the ute, knowing he has finally found the job that was meant just for him.
