Overview

The number of children with more complex disabilities and health needs has increased substantially over the past 20 years. Dignity and Inclusion will help service providers develop policies and procedures specific to local circumstances, so that disabled children and young people can access services and lead a life as part of their local community. It examines the business of managing complex health needs and illustrates the process with examples of good practice from across the country. These examples illustrate how agencies can work together to develop local policies and procedures to ensure that the needs of this group of children are met in a coordinated and child-centred way. Making it work for children with complex health care needs is one of two Dignity and Inclusion publications detailing good practice in both inclusive and specialist settings across education, health, social care and leisure.

Amanda is the Assistant Director at Council for Disabled Children (CDC). Amanda's work at CDC is to develop the health and participation services offered to disabled children and young people to help them live ordinary lives. She has worked in children's policy both as a researcher and campaigner for many 19 years. During that time she has worked in many areas including youth unemployment, leaving care, homelessness, family support and issues facing disabled children and their families.
