OverviewIn the field of machine tools the considerable progress which has taken place in the last two decades, has been due to a large extent to the co-opera- tion between teaching, research and industry. The paper describes how this co-operation, extending far beyond national boundaries, has influenced design fundamentals as well as design practice for metal cutting machine tools, and how this has contributed to the develop- ment of machines which show better quantitative and qualitative perfor- mance with higher technical and economic efficiency. Literatur [1] Nicolson, J.
