The lexical series ""malku = sarru"" is the most important and most extensive of the three hitherto known Akkadian lists of synonyms, which in contrast to the Sumero-Akkadian bilingual lists concentrate on the subtleties of the Akkadian thesaurus: hapax legomona and seldom used words, words attested in only in literature ... Whereas the bulk of words provided with an explanation is Akkadian, some 10% of entries are taken from West-Semitic, Kassite, Hurrian, Hittite and Elamite languages. This edition of the series' eight tablets consists of an homogenized transliteration with an accompanying translation and a synoptic (""score"") transliteration in addition, augmented by an extensive commentary and supplemented by plates of hitherto unpublished cuneiform texts.
