Overview

I kept this diary every day during this Northern Ireland tour as the Officer Commanding 15 Platoon, D Company, 1st Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders from 23 November 1975 - 3rd April 1976. In between then and my retirement on 31 March 2023 it had not seen the light of day. What I can say is that in this transcript I have strayed very little from what I wrote in 1975/76. Sometimes it was boring and other times exciting but that is how it was. Overall, we wanted to do a good job and all come back safely, after all, that is what we had been trained to do. It is hard to believe that it is 50 years since we patrolled those Lower Falls streets, at the height of the 'Troubles'
