Wheeler, MD, FAAP, Practical Gastroenterology Author InformationWaqar Qureshi, MD, FRCP, FACP, FACG, FASGE spent his early years in the United Kingdom, where he earned his medical degree at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, University of London. Following residency training in Rochester, NY and fellowship training in Gastroenterology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, he was recruited to Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, in 1997 to be Chief of Endoscopy. He is now Professor in the Section of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Baylor. He recognized that, despite the widespread popularity of gastroenterology, few programs provided comprehensive training in anorectal disorders. Dr. Qureshi started an anorectal clinic, which is now included as an essential rotation by the fellows in training so as to learn the details regarding managing anorectal disease in the outpatient setting. The national gastroenterology societies have since recognized this deficiency in training and have begun to offer workshops on anorectal disease, some of which Dr. Qureshi has directed. In addition, he obtained a grant from the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy to produce a DVD on anorectal examination (https://learn.asge.org/Public/Catalog/Home.aspx).
