After several years of teaching gifted children, she earned her doctorate in education of the gifted from the University of Georgia, where she studied under Dr. E. Paul Torrance. Lucy G. Begnaud received her PhD from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge in 1999. She received her bachelors degree in special education, her masters degree in reading, and her specialist degree in gifted dducation from USL. She was an elementary teacher for 19 years.
