OverviewCase studies of detachment faults focuses on specific examples of both continental and oceanic detachments and associated lithology. Detachments appear to be quite common to the Basin and Range province occurring before, during, and after rifting style horst and graben formation. Dike emplacement, footwall rotation, and high angle normal faulting including mineralization appears to be indicators that detachment faulting occurred. In oceanic ridge systems, metamorphic core complexing, faulting, and rotation appears to occur similar to continental detachments. Chapter 1 describes dike emplacement and footwall rotation in the Californian Whipple Mountains. Chapter 2 presents mineralization associated with detachments in the Sacramento Mountains of California. Chapter 3 discusses two stage development of Death Valley continuing with Chapter 4 tectonic reorganization of Death Valley. Chapter 5 deviates from North America detachment to South Norway's Caledonian detachments. Chapter 6 begins oceanic core complex discussion of the Mid-Cayman Spreading Center. Chapter 7 presents gabbroic crust development at a slow spreading ridge center. Chapter 8 ends the book with strain localization at the Southwest Indian Ridge.
