OverviewIn this book, a model classroom has been developed to utilize artificial lighting in coordination with available daylight with the objective of energy conservation. The classroom is conceptually divided into two zones based on the number of occupants, and the operating region of lighting varies according to the presence of occupants on the working plane. Multiple sensors are employed to acquire essential data, including an infrared sensor, light sensor, and occupancy sensor, to determine occupant count, daylight availability, and the location of occupants. A microcontroller is interfaced with these sensors to receive input data and generate control signals. The processed output is sent to a relay module connected to the lighting load. The relay operates based on real-time sensor values, and system status is displayed on an LCD panel. The presence of occupants activates the lighting system depending on the measured lux level and automatically switches off the load when occupants leave the area, thereby ensuring efficient energy usage. This integrated approach improves visual comfort, reduces power consumption, and supports sustainable building operation. It is scalable. Low cost.
