OverviewDESERT WINDS, set in the early 2000s in Coachella Valley, California, is a mystery-thriller story that begins with an unlikely, naïve protagonist named Sheldon Goodman. Sheldon had no life plan and was destined to be a lost soul. His mother was a drug addict and disappeared two months after entering a church drug rehabilitation program. At 18 he left the church home and roamed the Coachella Valley until he was befriended by the Assistant Director of Security for the Tranquilo Band of Mission Indians. This man groomed Sheldon to become a soldier into the reservation's secret operations with CIA partnerships and other illegal operations with cartels and local gangs. After helping to cremate the body of the newly elected chairman of the Tribal Council, who was also his girlfriend's uncle, Sheldon determines to face his own poor choices, his failures, and his fears. He confesses to his ex-bosses at the crematory, becomes a confidential informant for the Riverside Sheriffs who are investigating the disappearance and a double murder connected to the reservation, and even tells Connie the fate of her uncle. When he and Connie determine to find evidence that his mom was sex trafficked at the church's women's home, she decides to go undercover, but is taken, and he is kidnapped and marked for death to cover up CIA involvement at the reservation. He now must find strength and courage he never knew he possessed or be killed and labeled a murderer. Table of ContentsReviewsTim Lockhart - Businessman Desert Winds is a gripping, fast-paced thriller that pulls you in immediately and keeps the tension high throughout. Greg Chesterman delivers a smart, well-crafted murder mystery with vivid atmosphere and compelling characters. The story is engaging, entertaining, and hard to put down-highly recommended for fans of suspense and crime fiction. Racquel Schoenfeld Compelling characters...intricate plot...the pace build up...WOW! I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an exciting, thought-provoking read! Carey Alstadt If Desert Winds is the author's first endeavor, it is hard to believe. I'm more of a thriller movie watcher, but do enjoy a good book in the same genre, if the work is done well. This fits for sure. There are so many things going on in every chapter not to mention the host of characters introduced that I was left wondering half-way through just how it would all come together. The story moves along without a hitch. And for sure I found myself engrossed to the point I really didn't want to put it down. I did so only to savor it all the more. The read is easy and in under a couple of weeks I was done. And finished well-satisfied. Lastly, I hope the author decides to make this into some sort of series sequel. As we are now near the holidays, Desert Winds would be a great gift for yourself or someone else. Pam Taylor My classmate wrote this book. It is a great story with lots of amazing details. Can't wait for his next book!! Thomas Billick I was fortunate enough to read this just prior to going to print. As one who doesn't read much, I could not put it down! I figured I'd read it over the course of 2 weeks, but I went through it in 3 days. Well written, attention grabbing and all. I'd love to see this novel become a film. Must read!
