Overview

This small volume was written to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Desert Skies condominium complex. Located in the southwest corner of Palm Springs, Desert Skies is a prime example of Mid-Century Modern architecture at its finest and was built by one of the city's leading early developers, Roy Fey. Opened in December 1956 as an apartment-hotel, the complex was soon converted into cooperative apartments, becoming condominiums in 1993. Through the documentation and preservation of the rich history of this important local landmark, it is hoped that owners at Desert Skies, both current and future, will be inspired to continue to preserve Desert Skies for many years to come. It is also hoped that others will be similarly inspired to preserve the Mid-Century Modern architectural and design heritage that gives Palm Springs so much of its visual character.
