Overview

English Summary: Euripides is not only known as the most tragic of all poets (Aristotle), but also as the destroyer of tragedy (Nietzsche). How is such an enormous change possible, almost a reversal regarding the perception of Euripides? The present work tries, on the one hand, to comprehend the most important steps of the valuation of Euripides historically (Aristophanes, ancient scholia, Second Sophistry, Church Fathers, Byzantine Middle Ages, renaissance poetics, humanism, Enlightenment, German Idealism, fin de siecle, 20th century). On the other hand, it examines why the view on Euripides is reoriented in certain periods (especially during Renaissance and at the end of the 18th and 19th century). Jahrhunderts).
