OverviewThis book deals with one of the most dangerous social patterns of our time: the insufficient birth rate in Western countries and many others, the consequences of having so few children, and the causes and possible solutions. With fewer babies every year, to warn that society is on the way to extinction is not an unfounded, over-frightening prophecy. It is simple math, of the kind a ten-year-old child can handle. And before disappearing, an infertile society is bound for population loss, increased aging, economic and affective impoverishment, a replacement of genuine democracy by gerontocracy, and a loss of relevance in the international/geopolitical arena. EITHER DEMOGRAPHIC REVIVAL OR DEMOGRAPHIC SUICIDE..... I was shocked by the imminence of the terrors he describes, because they all result from obvious mechanisms which the author lays out to the reader..... What I like is the author's soberness and objectivity. The facts he presents are shocking but he never overstates them (HANS-WERNER SINN - Economist. Professor emeritus of Munich University and ex-president of the Ifo Institute for Economic Research) AN EXTRAORDINARY AND VERY VALUABLE BOOK. Exciting to read, with quotes boosting its arguments (JUAN VELARDE - Economist, Prince of Asturias Award of Social Science, President of the Spanish Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences) MACARRON'S BOOK IS ESSENTIAL for anyone who wants to approach-with rigor and seriousness, data, figures, and grounded opinions-the brutal problem of what clearly defines the title of this book: our demographic suicide (JOSEP PIQUE - Economist, ex-minister of Industry and Energy, Science and Technology, Foreign Affairs and spokesman of the Spanish government, and businessman) THIS BOOK INTENDS NOT TO FRIGHTEN, BUT TO WARN, and that warning is pertinent and it would suit anyone to know it (JOAQUIN LEGUINA - Economist, demographer, ex-president of Madrid-region and writer) Full Product DetailsAuthor: Alejandro Macarron LarumbePublisher: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform Imprint: Createspace Independent Publishing Platform Dimensions: Width: 17.00cm , Height: 1.70cm , Length: 24.40cm Weight: 0.494kg ISBN: 9781548228033ISBN 10: 1548228036 Pages: 310 Publication Date: 24 October 2017 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Available To Order We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier.
