"This book doesn't dance around real-world water challenges, but faces them head on. Combining science and social studies, the defenders of the future characters interact with the talking water character. The story reveals how, even though humans are negatively impacting water, regular people (like your students!) can use their super strengths to turn these challenges around. The story can be read aloud by a teacher or performed as a skit. Since this story is filled with dense content and big issues, the author suggests following the book's layout and reading only a few pages of the story at a time followed by the corresponding activities (delineated by dotted borders) to help the students absorb the information before moving on to the next section or ""mission."" A glossary and additional resources are included in the back of the book."

Dawn Pape's career and life objective are woven together; to make the world a better place through careful use of our natural resources. She is driven to make a difference in the world and to help bring about change to reduce our environmental footprint through her various books, programs, and even puppet shows. Ms. Pape has a Masters in Environmental Education, founded the Blue Thumb-Planting for Clean Water program, and has served as a Master Gardener volunteer for decades. As a licensed teacher, she enjoys working with people of all ages, writing, gardening, and dabbles with photography.
