Deep As A Tomb

Overview

Seventeen-year-old Myla feels the land in her blood and bones. Prince Beran burns with a need for revenge. And forest-born Kaven will do anything to protect the girl he loves. Like all Westreachers, Myla is bound to the green world through ancient, forest-made tombs. So when she finds she can open the long-sealed barrows, she's thrilled by her gift... until her father demands she use it to fuel rebellion against the king. Myla would rather focus on herbcraft and spend time with Kaven, whose family is hip-deep in debt and cutting deals that the forest can't forgive. Sent to secure his claim as royal heir, Beran arrives in the Westreach only to see the guard he loves like a father murdered. Stone royal duty, because grieving Beran wants revenge, and he's willing to make enemies to get it. Thrown together as fosterlings under one roof, Myla, Beran, and Kaven must choose between loyalty, power, and truth... before the forest itself demands a price none of them are ready to pay.

Author Information

For about a dozen years, Dorothy A. Winsor taught technical writing at Iowa State University and served as the editor of the Journal of Business and Technical Communication, but then she decided writing young adult (YA) fantasy was more fun.The Wind Reader was published by Inspired Quill in fall 2018, followed by The Wysman, The Trickster and Glass Girl and Dragoncraft. Her previous novels include Finders Keepers (2015) and Deep as a Tomb (2016), the latter of which is being republished with Inspired Quill mid-2026 . Her short stories have appeared in Swords and Sorcery Magazine, Bards and Sages Quarterly, and FrostFire Worlds (sadly no longer available). She lives near Chicago with her husband, who engineers tractors, and has one son, the person who first introduced her to the pleasure of reading fantasy. Her deepest secret is that she once wrote over a million words of Lord of the Rings fanfiction.
