OverviewIn this volume, Prof. Martin describes the historical context in which the Joyous Entry of the new governor of the Netherlands, Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand, into the city of Antwerp in 1634 took place. He then goes on to discuss the organization and chronology of the tasks of designing the street decorations, which had been entrusted to Rubens. The core of the book is a narrative of the procession, combined with a catalogue raisonne of the works produced for the occasion. In a last chapter the subsequent history of the works is traced and, in conclusion, the relevant documents are quoted in the appendixes. The book contains 114 illustrations.
