Overview

"This new book is based on ""Debt Recovery in the EC"", which was first published in 1990 and which has now been expanded. Important though that book was in dealing with the recovery of debts in the member states of the EC, the business map of Europe has changed dramatically since 1991. Firstly, the major changes in Eastern Europe have opened up new business possibilities for the West. Previously hostile communist states are anxious to become free market democracies and need to establish trade links with Western Europe in order to survive. Secondly, the EC and EFTA have agreed to create the ""European Economic Area"" which will substantially broaden the horizons of the Single European Market. This book is a practical guide for any company or individual intending to do business anywhere in Europe. It is not designed as a legal or technical book, but as a practical ""how to do it"" book. Its coverage is unique, outlining the debt recovery procedure not only in the 12 member states of the EC, but also in the five principal EFTA members - Norway, Sweden, Finland, Austria and Switzerland, and seven East European states - Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Poland, Estonia, Romania, Russia and Ukraine. The book explains the debt collection systems which operate in each country of Europe, bringing together the legislation and procedures available, and illustrates how the process should be undertaken. Each chapter deals with a separate country and is written by an expert on that particular country. Regardless of the size of the debt, the authors set out in a practical manner the procedures to follow in order to start recovery or to bring about a successful collection of the outstanding debt."
