Overview

It is 1885 in Marylebone, London. Ava Loveday works with her widowed father in their struggling family funeral business. Her commitment to her father and her work consumes her daily life, leaving her without hope or opportunities for love or marriage. When a new, challenging case comes their way, the Lovedays believe it could be a stepping stone to a more promising future. But their fortunes are about to take a turn for the worse when the deceased's body disappears from their funeral parlour. In steps Detective Inspector Ross Wentworth; immediately, tensions between him and Ava begin to build and intensify as the Lovedays' most faithful employee falls under suspicion, and the frantic search for the corpse ensues. Time is not on their side, and as Ava embarks on a single-minded mission to discover the body's whereabouts and those responsible, she is confronted by sinister forces determined to stop her.
