Overview

See below for English description. Canadians earned the admiration of the world - and a reputation as soldiers who could get the job done - after their hard-won victory at Vimy Ridge. From that date in early 1917 until the Armistice in November 1918, they proved themselves again and again in legendary battles such as Passchendaele, Lens and the Hundred Days' offensive. De Vimy ? la victoire documents their decisive battles to push back the German lines in the final years of the Great War. The book features a scrapbook design with sidebars and extended captions, and first-person accounts describing life at the Front. Includes numerous haunting photos and illustrations complemented by original maps. Original title: From Vimy to Victory

Quill & Quire Reviews Dieppe: Canada's Darkest Day of World War II (Dieppe - La journ?e la plus sombre de la Deuxi?me Guerre mondiale) Dieppe can be described quite simply as superb... archival photographs, first-person accounts from surviving combatants or memoirs, and the connective tissue of his beautifully crafted text tell a story that is equal parts horror and valour. The Globe and Mail At Vimy Ridge: Canada's Greatest World War I Victory (La bataille de Vimy) At Vimy Ridge is a splendid introduction to a major event in Canadian history, and Brewster has created another valuable historical resource... Few copies will sit for long on library shelves. Quill & Quire, starred review

Author Information

Madison Press. On lui doit entre autres: La bataille de Vimy, Le d?barquement ? Juno et Dieppe. Hugh Brewster is the author of four award-winning non-fiction titles about Canadians under fire, titles that have won acclaim with readers of all ages. The experiences described to Brewster by veterans of the Dieppe Raid inspired the novel Prisoner of Dieppe, which won the 2012 Hackmatack Award. He is also the author of nine books for children and adults and is a soughtafter speaker in schools and libraries. He regularly gives presentations all across Canada and appears on radio and television.
