Table of ContentsReviewsAuthor InformationMartin Schermaier is professor of Roman and civil law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn. Dr. J. Harry Dondorp has been a lecturer at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, The Netherlands since 1979. He researches the history of European private law and medieval canon law. A.J.B. Sirks studied law in Leiden and habilitated in 1984 at the University of Amsterdam with 'Food for Rome'. From 1998 to 2006 professor of ancient legal history, European private law history and civil law at the JW Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, from 2006 to 2014 Regius Professor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford. Research focus: classical Roman law, late antique law (especially Codex Theodosianus here), Byzantine law, Roman-Dutch law of the 18th century (especially Bijnkershoek), colonial law in the area of the former VOC (East India and Ceylon).
