David Hare: A Casebook

Overview

A collection of essays devoted to the work of arguably one of Britain's most provocative playwrights. This volume includes a chronology and a complete bibliography. It begins with an interview with Hare in which he discusses the whole sweep of his career, focusing particularly on his theatre trilogy of the 1990s. Following the interview are three essays that range widely over Hare's considerable body of work: 16 stage plays, eight theatrical collaborations and 11 screenplays for film and television. A further nine essays examine individual Hare plays and films, from his initial success, ""Slag"" (1970), to his most recent play ""The Absence of War"" (1993).
