Overview

Daughters of Orion is a contemporary action/adventure novel with elements of mystery, romance, and light fantasy. It was inspired by the stars and Greco-Roman myths about the constellations. It is a story about family, both by blood and by choice. It is also about the stories that families tell themselves, whether true or false, and the consequences of those tales. The stories say Orion the Hunter and Antares the Scorpion were imprisoned in the stars on opposite sides of the sky. Donna grew up hearing the stories of how Antares stole Orion's wife, Merope, which led to the ongoing, often bloody, feud between the Hunters and Scorpions. When her husband's suspicious death left her alone with an infant daughter, she did not trust her people to protect them. Instead, Donna fled the Hunters and her heritage. For nearly twenty years, the last two Daughters of Orion remained hidden. Trixie grew up hearing her mother's star stories about Orion the Hunter and his nemesis the Scorpion. She thought they were just fun bedtime stories inspired by the constellations. Then, she was abducted by the Scorpion's very real followers, who had stories of their own. They say she's the Daughter of Merope. They say she's the key to unlocking the star prisons.

J. E. Novotny, better known as Jen, is a professional ghostwriter specializing in educational materials. She also writes novels and novellas for fun, with Daughters of Orion being her first published full-length novel. Most of her fiction involves at least a touch of the magical or fantastical, and some of it involves a lot of that.
