Reviews

The brightly coloured books fold out to reveal a selection of cut out figures attached to the frame of the book with ribbons. The concept behind the series is that with support, babies and young children can be encouraged to blow air at the cut out figures. Children are immediately reinforced by the movement this creates. These oro-motor activities may help children to develop their ability to control the muscles used in speech and sound production. These books are lovely. The colours are bright, the cut outs and ribbons engaging. The books are a good size for small hands and nice and stiff, which makes them easy to carry around. The text of the books is presented in single lines at the bottom of each page, as well as in a complete poem on a solid page. The language used is simple and action focused. I have used these books with children aged between 12 and 18 months. The children have been intrigued b the concertina presentation of the books and have spent a lot of time unfolding the books and trying to make them stand up. With encouragement, some children have been willing to blow at the cut out figures and have then enjoyed watching them move around. This activity had been too complex for other children but it is easy to differentiate task using these books. I have used this book for vocabulary development in basic naming tasks as well as matching and colour related activities. I really like these books. Their unusual presentation makes them a unique addition to a child's library. -- Margo Turnbull, Speech and Language Therapist Early Talk Magazine 20080401
