Overview

12-year-old Brenna likes to play it safe, especially when she's in charge of Sam, her younger brother with Down syndrome-but when they (along with a dog, a chubby cat, and two kids from next door) mysteriously appear in another world, she realizes safe is long gone. Joined by kind-hearted strangers and pursued by dangerous creatures, Brenna begins to uncover clues and tangled secrets. The more she discovers, the more perilous their journey grows. Will they get home safely, or will everything dear to Brenna be ripped away for good?

Amanda Preisler grew up in the woods of Minnesota, reading books, writing stories in the playhouse, and searching for doors to other worlds. Because of her younger brother, she looked for books that had characters with Down syndrome, but they seemed to be missing, so she started a journey to write some herself. Alongside that, she's also on an adventure teaching fourth grade near St. Paul, Minnesota. She aims to share book enthusiasm and a love for people with Down syndrome wherever she goes.
