OverviewDaraban Leucogranite rocks are cropped out in different locations within the host harzburgite ultramafic rock units of Mawat ophiolite complex, within the Zagros Suture Zone of northeastern Iraq. They are appeared as small discontinuous dikes or boss like. Petrographically, they have the composition of granite. Potassium feldspar, quartz, plagioclase, muscovite and tourmaline are the major phases, and the accessory minerals are biotite, zircon, monazite, apatite, xenotime and Fe-Ti oxides. In the Daraban Leucogranite, potassium feldspar is orthoclase and microcline, and plagioclase is albite (An0-5). For the first time tourmaline has been recorded and classified as dravite to schorlite type. Muscovite is of primary muscovite type i.e. it is magmatic muscovite. Biotite grains are meroxene in the core of the body with syn-serpentinization phlogopite along the contact of Daraban Leucogranite with host rocks.
