OverviewKatrina Naomi’s glorious new suite of poems, dance as if, is at once a celebration of the body and a quest for the euphoria of movement – without shame, without self-criticism. dance as if follows Katrina's fruitful collaboration with the dancer/choreographer Kyra Norman, and Katrina draws on a variety of poetic forms to capture this joyful re-engagement with the physical. In these poems Katrina is rediscovering dance in the wake of sexual violence. But dance as if is a determined movement away from that place to somewhere more sustaining – where female friendship is embraced and where the self – a body and mind in perfect balance – is regained. dance as if is Katrina’s second pamphlet with VERVE, after the wonderful Typhoon Etiquette which we published in 2019, and we couldn’t be happier! Movement and emotion is transformed into absorbing, surprising and uplifting poetry.
